Excel 2003 Intermediate Class

Continuing where the introductory Excel training course left off, this Excel Intermediate training class delves further into the use and design of worksheets and workbooks.

After attending this hands-on Excel training class, you will be confident using advanced Excel features, such as data validation, functions, and charts. You'll save yourself time and effort by automating repetitive tasks, customizing Excel to meet your specific needs, and standardizing attention-getting layouts.

In only one day, our Excel Intermediate training gives you the expert tips and tricks you need to increase your Excel productivity and produce professional-quality workbooks.

Working with Microsoft Excel Worksheets

Excel offers an easy-to-use interface and time-saving advanced features to simplify even the most complex tasks. Customizing tabs makes it easier to quickly find and retrieve the data you need when working with large amounts of data that are spread over multiple worksheets. You may also want to reference information in other workbooks without duplicating that data, ensuring real-time calculations. In this section of the training course, we teach you how to:

  • Rename and color-code worksheets
  • Edit worksheets as a group
  • Manage multiple worksheets
  • Link formula to other worksheets

Working with Excel Functions

Excel functions speed up and automate calculations, like basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), and financial and statistical functions, like averaging and standard deviation. In this part of the intermediate Excel training course, you will learn how to:

  • Simplify commands and formulas by naming cells
  • Insert functions into a worksheet
  • Work with financial and date functions

Working with Formatting & Data Validation

Excel provides powerful tools to help users control the type of data entered into each worksheet. Excel can automate formatting based on various rules. For example, cells with a value greater than 100 automatically show in blue, and those with a value less than 25 are displayed in yellow. In this session, we'll show you how to:

  • Apply and use data validation and conditional formatting
  • Create and use custom formats
  • Work with auditing and error checking tools

Creating Advanced Charts

Once students master basic Excel charting techniques, they learn how to build more advanced, information-rich charts like three-dimensional and complex pie charts. This section covers how to:

  • Develop combination charts, melding both column and line presentation
  • Create pictographs--charts that use pictures to represent a given value

Using Excel List Features

MS Excel lists make it easier to sort, order, reorder and organize large amounts of data. In this part of the Excel training course, students learn how to:

  • Create a list from a set of data
  • Use AutoComplete to automatically fill-in column entries
  • Sort a list with one click
  • Simplify data entry, retrieval or update with the data form
  • Filter a list to view only certain data based on specific criteria

Using Excel Styles & Templates

Excel users can easily personalize charts for added visual appeal and impact. Microsoft Excel makes professional-looking formatting easy with styles and templates. In this training course, students learn how to:

  • Create and use styles and templates
  • Merge styles to create their own unique look
