PowerPoint 2003 Intermediate Class

You've learned the basics of PowerPoint 2003. Now take the next step with our Intermediate PowerPoint 2003 class.

In just one day with our experienced instructors, you will learn how to use key advanced features that will help you create the impactful presentations you want. We will go over all the techniques - as well as the more tricky aspects - of creating and editing your own drawings and graphic objects. You will find out how to save formatting time with slide masters and templates. And you will get plenty of tips about how to put together slide shows and presentations that work, including ways to use animation and transition effects, hidden slides, action buttons, and much more.

Drawing in PowerPoint

A presentation can be so much more than just a list of boring bullets. The course begins by introducing you to PowerPoint's comprehensive set of drawings tools with which you can add illustrations and pictures to your slides, from simple shapes to complex hand-drawings. We'll show you how to:

  • Enhance a presentation with simple line drawings and AutoShapes
  • Say what you want to say with your own freeform drawings
  • Easily fix mistakes and edit your drawings; no need to get it perfect the first time
  • Use special elements like connectors to create flow charts and other diagrams
  • Make a heading stand out with WordArt

Modifying Objects in Powerpoint

The training continues by going over all the techniques you can use to work with and customize any drawings, shapes, and other graphic objects you've added to your presentation. You will learn how to:

  • Resize objects either with the mouse or by changing the Height and Width values
  • Copy and move objects between slides and presentations
  • Format objects with eye-catching fill colors or gradients, line colors, and line styles
  • Create depth with shadows and 3-D effects

Working with Objects in Powerpoint

Continuing to build your skills with manipulating graphic objects in PowerPoint, we will show you how to combine shapes with text elements and with each other. You will learn all the different ways to arrange multiple graphic objects on a slide. We'll go over how to:

  • Let your pictures speak by adding text
  • Create professional-looking layouts by layering objects
  • Control placement with guides, gridlines, and rulers
  • Rotate or flip shapes and drawings
  • Save editing time and reduce errors by combining objects into groups

Creating & Modifying Charts in Powerpoint

In addition to shapes and drawings, you can also add explanatory charts to your presentations. PowerPoint makes it easy to create different types of 2D and 3D charts - including bar charts, pie charts, column charts, and many more - based on your data. Find out how to:

  • Create and edit a chart slide
  • Use existing Excel data to create a chart
  • Apply your choice of colors and patterns to the chart objects

Creating Diagrams, Organization Charts, & Tables

While charts are useful for presenting numerical data, diagrams are generally used to illustrate non-numerical data. PowerPoint has several types of ready-made diagrams to help you illustrate conceptual information on a slide using shapes, colors, text, and connector lines. We'll explain how to:

  • Create Cycle, Radial, Pyramid, Venn, and Target diagrams
  • Build an organization chart to illustrate reporting relationships
  • Add and format easy-to-read tables

Customizing Designs in Powerpoint

This section of the course is all about formatting your presentation slides - attractively, consistently, and proficiently. Keep it simple with PowerPoint's pre-defined color schemes, or create your own custom slide masters and templates. Find out how to:

  • Auto-format a slide's background color, text, and line color with a Slide Design color scheme
  • Create a watermark background
  • Use masters for consistent formatting of slides, title slides, and even handouts and notes
  • Add slide numbers or other header or footer information
  • Save time by creating a default template with the colors, graphics, and formats you use regularly

Creating Slide Shows in Powerpoint

Once your presentation is complete, you will view or present it as a slide show, which displays your slides - or a custom grouping of your slides - on the screen. At any time while you work, you can view the slide show to get a sense for how your audience will experience the presentation. Learn all about how to:

  • Optimize your slide show for different presentation situations such as traditional meetings, interactive meetings, or web delivery
  • Animate slide transitions
  • Set up the slide timing for an automatic slide show

Delivering Powerpoint presentations

Improve your ability to deliver entertaining, convincing presentations every time. Keep your presentation dynamic with Action Buttons that make it easy to integrate other presentations, an Internet address, or even video and sound clips. And we'll show you all the ins and outs of creating animations for slides that keep the audience engrossed in what you have to say. Our instructors will show you how to:

  • Add different types of Action Buttons, for example, a button that can run an application, play a sound, or both
  • Energize your slide show with animation schemes that automatically add visual and transition effects
  • Customize animations to hold the audience attention or highlight important pieces of information
  • Prevent fumbles while you step through your presentation by practicing slide show shortcuts

Prerequisites:

  • A strong understanding of Microsoft Windows file management, the concepts of right-clicking and object property selection
  • Intro to MS PowerPoint or equivalent experience, basic understanding of slide navigation, drawing objects and text formatting
