Word 2003 Intro Training

A cornerstone of the Microsoft Office suite of products, Word 2003 is your gateway to professional documents and polished communication with your peers and supervisors.

And you can get started right away with our introductory Word 2003 training class.

In just a day, we'll cover all the basics - from creating new documents, to formatting and editing text, to printing and distributing your documents.

Getting Started with Microsoft Word 2003

We begin at the beginning: Your AcademyX trainer will show you how easy it is to open and start Microsoft Word 2003 and use it to create, preview, and open documents - even several documents at once. You will learn how to:

  • Customize your Office space with personalized menus and toolbars
  • Open documents and find your way around multiple open documents
  • Save time like the pros with shortcuts like task panes and smart tags

Creating Content and Making Revisions

Spelling not your strong suit? Not an issue with Word's extensive tools and features for checking spelling and grammar! We will show you the secrets to writing error-free, effective content. You'll complete this part of the introductory Word training knowing how to:

  • Quickly select words, paragraphs, or all the text in a document
  • Make information stand out by changing text formatting like font and text size
  • Set Word up to correct or complete words as you type
  • Use Word tools to check spelling or grammar or both
  • Beef up your content with Word's thesaurus of synonyms
  • Reduce errors and save time with the copy/paste and undo/redo commands

Working with Documents in MS Word

In this section, we'll go over the many ways to create, save, and close documents. And you'll learn how to simplify your life with Word's wide array of templates for documents like letters, faxes, labels, or envelopes. Our experienced instructors will teach you how to:

  • Create a new blank document or get a quick start with a template
  • Insert automatic elements like the day's date
  • Quickly repeat steps with a simple keystroke
  • Save your work and organize saved documents

Formatting Paragraphs

Word allows you to apply formatting at the level of words and characters, or at the level of paragraphs of text. This section of the Word training will introduce you to making changes, like adjusting text alignment and spacing within and between paragraphs. You will learn how to:

  • Change line spacing within a paragraph or between paragraphs
  • Align paragraph text left, right, or centered
  • Make the right margin "ragged" or justified

Working with Pages and Views

Our introductory Word training takes you from working with the nitty-gritty, like characters, words, and paragraphs, to viewing and navigating your pages of content. You will find out how to choose from the options for viewing your document, and how to efficiently navigate a large document. We'll show you how to:

  • View your document as an outline, in draft format, in reading view, and get a preview of how it will look as a printed document or as an online web page
  • Improve flow and readability by inserting manual page breaks and page numbering
  • Set up custom margins that work for your content

Printing Documents

Taking you through the full process of creating a new document, writing content, and then producing the output you want, our Word 2003 Introduction training ends with comprehensive instructions for producing polished printouts. In this section, you will get hands-on practice with how to:

  • Preview a WYSIWYG ("what you see is what you get") version of your document before you send it to the printer
  • Set up and choose a particular printer
  • Optimize how your content is laid out for printing, for example, choosing landscape vs. portrait orientation, or automatically fitting your content to a specific page size
  • Print a full document or a subset of pages or paragraphs
  • Save time by printing envelopes from Word
