Word Introduction- Sacramento

Word is the most popular word processing application in use today. More than just a word processor, MS Word supports many advanced collaboration functions such as viewing restriction, document sharing, Information Rights Management (IRM), XML support and track changes for multi-user input.

In this training course, students gain a solid understanding of the basic concepts and features in Word.

This Word Training is in Sacramento. AcademyX classes are offered with one free retake1.

Getting Started With Word

Word is widely used for document creation – from academic environments to law firms, corporations and news rooms. In this training course, students learn how to use MS Word for their basic communication and correspondence needs. Training course attendees gain a solid understanding of the display screen, learning how to personalize menus and toolbars to meet their preferences. Course attendees then learn how to change their menu and toolbar options, use task panes and open a new document. At times, students may have multiple documents open at one time. This training class explores easy ways to manage open documents and use Smart Tags. Students then learn how to access MS Word’s Help feature to find answers to their questions.

Working with Text

MS Word offers a wealth of tools to expedite and simplify content management. In this training course, students learn how to position the insertion point and begin typing at any point in their document. They also learn how to select text or blocks of text, insert, replace and delete text.

Working with Word Documents

When creating long or complex Word documents, students will need to save their work and revisit it at a later date. In this class, participants learn how to create a document, save a document on their hard drive for later use, close a document and exit the application.

Revising Word Documents

Microsoft Word lets users update or change document text or formatting at any time. This becomes extremely important when editing or revising an important document or updating outdated information. In this training course, students learn how to copy and move text from one area of a document to another. They also learn how to use the Microsoft Office Clipboard to store text or blocks of text for later use. Course attendees gain step-by-step instruction with the undo, redo and repeat functions.

Using Document Tools

MS Word offers useful tools to help authors catch common spelling and grammar mistakes, providing the opportunity to correct errors before manuscripts are presented to important readers. In this training course, students learn how to check spelling and grammar, use the spelling and grammar shortcut menus and the MS Word built-in thesaurus.

Formatting Paragraphs

Word’s formatting features simplify paragraph alignment and spacing. In this class, students learn how to change line spacing (single, double or space and a half), align and indent text for paragraphs, lists or long quotes. Course attendees also learn how to set tabs at any horizontal point across a page.

Working with Pages and Views

Authors can use one of several viewing options depending on their personal preferences and needs. Authors can also adjust page layout to print as they originally intended. In this training course, students learn how to work with different views in MS Word, insert page breaks where needed and use the Click and Type option. Class participants also learn how to change margins and create automatic page numbers.

Printing Word Documents

MS Word documents can be shared via electronic communications or printed to either retain a paper record or for distribution. In this class, students learn how to use the Print Preview feature to ensure a manuscript is formatted as originally intended. Course attendees also learn how to print a manuscript or create and print envelopes for correspondence.
