Access Fundamentals - San Francisco

This introduction training course explores the basic principles of relational databases. Attendees gain hands-on instruction, leaving the class with a solid understanding of terminology, application use and functionality.

Access Overview

In this training course, students learn Access basics including its use and common interface functions – from toolbars and task panes to object lists and menus. Training class attendees receive hands-on instruction in opening an existing database and finding answers to their questions using the application’s help files.

Designing an Access Database

Course attendees learn how easy it can be to build and design their own database. Topics include terminology, database creation concepts and considerations. Students also learn about fields, supported data types, keys and tables. Then, each training course attendee builds their own database using the Access table wizard. Once built, students learn how to print and preview their table on the screen.

Using Tables

Access makes it easy to change the way data is presented without touching the data itself. In this comprehensive training, students learn how to navigate and find data within the tables. They also learn how to filter and show only relevant data within a table.

Managing Records using Forms

Forms are frequently used to display data from related tables in an intuitive interface. This makes adding, updating and deleting records a snap. In this training, attendees gain step-by-step instruction in efficient ways to manage records using forms. They also learn how to find, sort and filter information to expedite retrieval.

Enhancing Access Tables

Access data storage is not limited to text. Users and administrators can also add images, videos and website hyperlinks, among other data. In this class, attendees learn how to store, retrieve, import and export various data types and objects to and from their database. Attendees also learn easy steps to modify their table, setting field properties and masking input.

Using Queries

Database administrators can quickly find and manipulate data by using queries. In this training, attendees learn the most effective way to use, sort, view, calculate and group table fields and perform queries.

Managing Reports and Forms

Data viewing and modification can become tedious as your table, and amount of data, grows. But forms present the same data in a more organized and appealing way. MS Access reports further simplify management of large tables by displaying them or presenting query output in a clean, print-ready format. In this training course, students learn the basics of both forms and reports to save time and more easily manage mass quantities of data.

Improving Reports and Forms

Using Microsoft Access, administrators can design their reports and forms to meet their visual and layout preferences. In this training course, students walk through the steps necessary to enhance report and form presentation, using the formatting toolbar, calculated controls, toolbox and auto formatting features.

  • A solid understanding of Windows’ file management, the concepts of right-clicking and selecting object properties
