Flash ActionScript - San Francisco

Adobe Logo This class is for students who have a solid understanding of Flash basics and would like an introduction to more advanced techniques such as ActionScripting, object-oriented design and optimization. If you know how to make buttons and animations with the timeline but find yourself stuck when it comes to accessing some of the more advanced features of Flash, this is the training class for you.

Controlling Visual Objects with ActionScript

This training course starts with introducing basic programming concepts, such as variables, property and instance names, numbers, strings, input and output.

Using and Writing Functions

Functions are basic to almost any programming language, including ActionScript. We will explain what a function is, how you write functions and how functions are used to build movie clips. We will also cover loading external contents and how to create new instances from my library.

Using Text, Dates, Math, and Paths

ActionScript have many common Object Oriented features that used to only exist in Object Oriented Languages. Object Oriented Languages are designed to create a more secure, robust and cleaner code. In this section, we discuss what an object is and how we can use objects to access built in Flash features, such as formatting and creating textfields, get the date and time and generate random numbers.

Understanding and Handling Events

Events are part of whats called Event-driven Programming. Event-driven programs respond to events, such as timers and keyboard or mouse operations. The programmer then programs the responses. In this section, we teach you how to write events and use events to control the movieclip's timeline.

Managing Color, Sound, and Data with Classes

Arrays are a basic component of any programming language and is mainly used for storing multiple elements. We teach you how to create and use arrays. We will also show you how to play sound for the user and change visual objects through code, such as color.

Making Decisions and Repeating Yourself

Loop statements are used to do repetitive tasks and conditional statements are used to perform certain actions when one or more conditions are met. We teach you how to do both.

Animating with ActionScript

Animation can be done with ActionScript and we wills how you how. In addition, we will show you how ActionScript can detect if two objects are touching and how to allow users drag and drop movieclips.
