Flash Fundamentals - San Francisco

Adobe Logo Flash is a web authoring environment desgined to create interactive websites with multimedia capabilities on multiple platforms, such as Windows, Machintosh, Unix and PDAs. Flash is commonly used to create animations, video and Rich Internet Applications (RIA). By the end of this course, the student will have learned how to create animations, interactive content and embed video and sound into Flash.

Introduction to Flash

We start by introducing you to basic Flash concepts, such as how to set your preferences, Flash development cycle and how to publish a file.

Adding Graphics to Flash

Flash supports a wide variety of graphic formats including bitmaps and vector graphics. We will teach you how to import and work with various graphics formats. Topics include, how to work with the drawing tools, color panel, library panel and graphic symbols.

Adding Text to Flash

In this section, we show you how to add and format text in Flash effectively. In addition, we will cover best practices and how to use the text tool, change font rendering methods and add input text fields.

Animation Principals

Learning some key animation principals is essential to understanding Flash. You will learn about the KEYFRAME, what it is and how it is used. The KEYFRAME's companion, the TWEEN, is another term taken from traditional animation and you will learn what it is and how powerful it becomes in a Flash production.

Flash ActionScript

ActionScript is Flash native scripting language that is primarily used for Flash movies and event handling, such as buttons. We will teach you how to use the Script Assist to create ActionScripts for frames and buttons.

Adding Sound and Video to Flash

With Flash you can easily add both sound and video to your web site. We show you how to organize movie clips, use actions to control the timeline, changing sound properties and make use of the newly introduced FLVPlayback component.

Publishing Your Flash Document

After creating a Flash document you might want to publish your work. In this section, we discuss different publishing formats and publishing profiles. We will also show you how to add Flash Player detection.

  • Familiarity with basic paint tools such as those found in PhotoShop, Paint Shop Pro, or MS Paint
