MS PowerPoint Intermediate - San Francisco PowerPoint, part of the Microsoft Office suite, is used by businesses, educational and municipal organizations to design and display professional presentations. MS PowerPoint has become the world’s most widely used presentation applications. Continuing where the PowerPoint Introduction course left off, this class delves further into its features including common font and color schemes, notes and handouts, animation, customized design, charts and data tables. Drawing in PowerPoint MS PowerPoint provides an extensive range of tools to support visual presentations. Drawing features help designers create curves, shapes, lines, arrows and freeform objects emphasized by shadows or 3-D effects. In this training course, students learn the basics of lines, curves and points. Attendees explore the Drawing Toolbar, learn how to select graphic objects, use simple drawing tools and AutoShapes. Students also learn how to customize their visuals by drawing and editing freeform objects. Course instruction covers the use of connector objects, from straight to curved, to build items like flowcharts and diagrams. Finally, class participants learn how to use PowerPoint’s WordArt to highlight and emphasize text. Modifying Objects To ensure presentation design is balanced and symmetrical, designers may need to resize, copy, move, duplicate or delete objects within or between slides. In this training class, students learn how to perform each of these tasks. They also gain hands-on instruction in changing object fill, line color and style. Finally, course participants learn how to add and customize shadows and 3-D effects to create dramatic impact. Working with Objects Microsoft PowerPoint design relies primarily on object layout and manipulation – from images and clipart to text boxes, lines and arrows. Complex slides may include numerous objects, some of which must remain in front of others for viewing integrity. In this training class, students learn how to attach text to a graphic object and work with this text. Course participants also learn how to change stacking order, align and distribute objects to ensure visuals are presented as intended. Students learn how to use MS PowerPoint layout guides, gridlines and rulers to arrange various items on a page. MS PowerPoint also provides tools to rotate objects clockwise or counterclockwise, flip objects to show their mirrored image and group objects to lock stacking order. Course attendees learn each of these techniques. Creating and Modifying MS PowerPoint Charts Charts help display information graphically. Column, bar, line, pie and XY (Scatter) are the most frequently used chart types. In this intermediate PowerPoint training class, students learn how to design a chart slide, activate a chart and use a datasheet table to feed values into their chart. Users may, at some point, want to change a chart type without starting from scratch. Course attendees learn how to do this, in addition to the steps involved in importing a worksheet and formatting chart objects. Additional topics include working with chart text, changing font, color and orientation. Creating Diagrams, Organization Charts and Tables MS PowerPoint makes it easy to build customized diagrams, organization charts and tables. In this course, students learn how to create and modify each, select table elements, adjust column width and row height to suit various sized content. Course attendees also learn how to insert and delete rows and columns without disrupting existing table content, merge or split cells to accommodate various cell sizes, and format a table. Customizing MS PowerPoint Designs In addition to using template designs built into the MS PowerPoint software, users can base their presentation on a custom design to adhere to a company’s brand or make a strong statement. In this course, students learn how to change presentation color schemes and create customized backgrounds. This course discusses the use of Masters, showing students how to view both title and slide masters. Class participants also learn how to add headers and footers to their MS PowerPoint slides, format slide master title and text, create a handout and outline master, and design a new default template to save time when designing future MS PowerPoint presentations. Creating Slide Shows Presenters can use Microsoft PowerPoint to display their slides manually or opt for timed slide transition for automatic advancement. PowerPoint also provides easy-to-use tools to build impressive transition effects. In this class, students learn how to use the Slide Show view, menu and shortcut menu to designate preferences. They also learn how to set-up a show and create transitional effects like blinds horizontal or vertical, box in or out, and checkerboard across or down, among others. Additional topics include hidden slide use, timed slide show and custom show presentation. Delivering MS PowerPoint Presentations PowerPoint offers multiple options for delivering presentations. Action Buttons allow for interactivity, while custom animation adds life to objects. In this course, students learn how to use action buttons and animation schemes, apply custom animation and adjust selected animation effects. They also learn how to animate charts to highlight key points and use slide show shortcuts to expedite frequent tasks. Prerequisites:
