Intro to Apache Web Server - San Francisco
For more than a decade, the most popular web server has been Apache, used frequently by both large enterprises and small businesses worldwide. Part of its appeal is due to its open source availability and free use and compatibility with most operating systems including Unix/Linux, Mac OSX and Windows.
Installation and Configuration In this training class, students learn Apache and the techniques used to install the appropriate version on both Windows and Unix/Linux. In addition, students learn, in detail, critical Apache files (httpd.conf) and folders (htdocs, conf, logs, modules and cgi-bin). With this, attendees set the DocumentRoot, choose a homepage with DirectoryIndex, set directory specific configurations using .htaccess and enable directory browsing with Option Indexes. Configuring Apache for PHP and Perl Once installed, Apache works with HTML pages and can be configured to load modules to work with PHP as well. Students can also configure Apache to work with Perl scripts, using ScriptAlias, Options ExecCGI and AddHandler. In this course, each attendee with gain hands on experience loading the correct PHP scripting-supporting modules and configuring Apache for CGI Perl. Handling Multiple Web Sites on One Server A single machine using Apache can serve multiple web sites when configured for Virtual Hosts. Students gain step-by-step instruction on setup techniques for machines supporting multiple websites. They also learn ways to configure support for each web site’s custom log files. Other Configurations Students are introduced to other settings and configuration options, such as multilingual pages, directory authentication and folder access denial for certain domains or IP addresses.
