Install ActiveState Perl on a Windows machine
Know which folders contain what, in the Perl installation directory
Understand the differences between Perl IDEs and configure a text editor for Perl syntax highlighting and script execution
Create Perl scripts with variables, conditionals, loops, and input/output
Use Perl's string functions
Use Perl's math and numeric functions
Programmatically run OS commands from your script and retrieve their output in a Perl variable
Avoid subtle bugs with "special characters" such as $, \, @, and %
Run one of your Perl scripts on Linux or Unix
